AberInnovation's Autumn Bulletin

Dear AberInnovation subscriber,

This month, we are thrilled to summarise our celebratory activities as we mark AberInnovation's four-year anniversary, passing a significant milestone in fostering innovation from our home in Wales.

We were delighted to officially launch the new LEAP programme, a ground-breaking initiative designed to empower entrepreneurs with the resources, mentorship, and support needed to transform their visionary ideas into successful ventures.

This programme reinforces our commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators and driving economic growth within our community and across the UK, highlighted by our four key stats to mark four years.

New food entrepreneur fund launched on innovation campus’ anniversary

We're pleased to have launched a new programme of support for food and feed start-ups.

LEAP is funded by the Dick Lawes Legacy Fund and it will support aspiring entrepreneurs and early stage companies from across the UK.

LEAP will support up to eight projects in 2024-2025 in the fields of agriculture, human food and nutrition - particularly with a focus on dairy—farm-to-fork processes, and animal nutrition.

The programme is designed to provide technical development support and mentorship to selected projects, backed by support of between £30,000 and £50,000.

Applications close at 5pm on 8th October 2024 - don't miss out!

LEAP Launch Event

On 24th September 2024, AberInnovation launched the LEAP programme at an event attended by over sixty stakeholders and collaborators.

AberInnovation CEO, Dr Rhian Hayward MBE highlighted our four years of achievements and announced the LEAP initiative. Professor Jon Timmis, Vice-Chancellor of Aberystwyth University, reaffirmed his support, while Nic Shilton from the Welsh Government and Nick Basset at the BBSRC discussed the broader UK innovation landscape.

Jane and David Neville from the Betty Lawes Foundation honoured the legacy of Dick Lawes, presenting a signed copy of “Challenging Dairy Frontiers” to Dr Hayward.

The LEAP programme aims to drive entrepreneurship, create tangible impacts, foster collaboration, attract further investment, support new ventures, and protect intellectual property.
